About the Mindfulness Workshops
I am delighted to share with my guided mindfulness meditation practices and techniques in a comprehensive workshop designed to deepen your personal mindfulness meditation practice. If practiced on a regular basis, if possible daily, the practices and techniques learned in the program present a very real opportunity for you to drop into what is the deepest and most beautiful, most liberating and most healing experiences associated with deep meditation.
Questions about Mindfulness
Do you feel that your life is absent of stillness and well-being, clarity, wisdom, and compassion? Have you ever wanted to find out more about mindfulness training but were not interested in the ideological and cultural trappings associated with the practice.
I am delighted to share with my guided mindfulness meditation practices and techniques in a comprehensive 8-week workshop designed to deepen your personal mindfulness meditation practice. If practiced on a regular basis, if possible daily, the practices and techniques learned in the program present a very real opportunity for you to drop into what is the deepest and most beautiful, most liberating and most healing experiences associated with deep meditation.
The Mindfulness Workshop is an 8-week group workshop for adults that combine experiential learning with the practice of mindfulness techniques and group discussion. Led by a professional mental health practitioner, you will learn how to change your relationship to challenging thoughts and experiences as well as become more involved in the present moment. With weekly reading assignments and mindfulness practice commitments, the more time you invest in the workshop, the better your outcomes tend to be. However, each has the choice of how much mindfulness to do each day. 30 minutes per day is satisfactory while 45 minutes per day is highly recommended.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the non-judgmental awareness and acceptance of your present experiences, such as your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. Mindfulness is simply the act of shifting your focus to any personal happening in the ‘here and now’. Mindfulness can be practiced countless ways, from observing the motion of your feet with each stride, seeing the curl pattern of your hair. Mindfulness is a state of complete awareness, focus, and acknowledgment of your reality, and instills greater acceptance of your experience.
Mindfulness is taught as a practice as it is an improvable skill that can be learned and developed over time. Just like professional musicians, someone who practices mindfulness will adopt practice times as just another part of his or her daily routine. The more time you devote to mindfulness practices the more, your psychological functioning will improve, and your emotional distress will also reduce.
Why Mindfulness?
So often it's the case that we're physically present, but the focus of our awareness is elsewhere. It may be in the near or distant future, or in the past. You may be lying on a beach on the last day of your vacation and thinking about being in the office the following day. Rather than enjoying the sunshine and the sound of the ocean, you're feeling tense and anxious. Or, you may be out with friends at dinner, but you're focused on a recent breakup. Instead of following the conversation and enjoying the meal, you’re feeling sad. Mindfulness helps you to bring your awareness back to the present moment, decreasing your distress and enhance your enjoyment.
Sometimes we are truly focused on the present moment but in a judgmental way. These judgments can stir up negative emotions and colour your experience of the moment. For example, you may be in a crowded shopping mall thinking “this is disgusting,” and “I don’t want to be here." As a result, you feel disgusted and struggle to get through the moment. It would certainly be challenging, but focusing simply on aspects of the experience without judgment, like colours and sounds could decrease your distress.
Benefits of mindfulness practice
Research shows that mindfulness practice has various positive psychological effects. These include increased subjective well-being, reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, improved regulation of emotions and behavior, and increased positive feelings.
How do people use mindfulness in their day to day lives?
Meditation is one way to cultivate the skill of mindfulness, but it is not the only way. Essentially, any part of your of your daily routine, from drinking coffee to riding the train, when done with a different quality of awareness; nonjudgmental and undivided, becomes an opportunity for mindfulness practice. There are several unlimited, non-time-intensive ways to practice Mindfulness.
How can I start a mindfulness practice?
I invite you to contact me to discuss your specific needs and to answer any questions you have about mindfulness training and my practice. Workshops are held periodically, and advanced bookings are essential. If you are unable to make it to the allotted Mindfulness Workshop, I will arrange for you to participate in the next available workshop.
